MAGIC OF THE PROM, TIME OF THE EXAMS…

The high school students have begun the countdown of the 100 days to their Diploma exams. The prom for the 3rd-year of high school and IB2 students took place on February 4th at the Villa Caprice restaurant in Chopina street 27. After the School Principal’s short speech, the students along with their partners made a beautiful performance of the traditional polonaise dance, which they had practised hard for the preceding two weeks. Parents made sure that the atmosphere was fantastic throughout this exceptional evening. According with a poet saying, let us revel when the time’s appropriate, students would dance and have fun till the crack of dawn. We keep our fingers crossed so that the May examinations would go as well for the students as the prom party did.

A DOG’S WILL OR A STORY OF THE MERCIFUL

This time, within their theatre-oriented education, preIB and IB students saw the graduation performance of the 4th-year students of the department of acting of the State Theatre High School in Wrocław, at its new site in Braniborska street.

„A Dog’s Will or A Story of The Merciful” by the Brazilian playwright Ariano Suassuna, directed by Remigiusz Brzyk, a universal tale of good and evil, sin and mercy, crime and redemption, enacted in a grotesque and symbolic convention, astonished the spectator with the diversity of students’ acting skills. The enthusiasm and great keenness of the young actors really impressed us, while the message of the play – here’s the rotten world in need for some good – evoked numerous discussions, not only religion-focused.

The lively plot, music and circus effects and dynamic acting made the two-hour performance slip by almost imperceptibly. This was undoubtedly a rewarding theatre night.

                                               EKOLA HIGH ACHIEVERS

In the first semester of the School Year 2011/2012 we have had a few students, both in preIB and IB, who turned out to be really outstanding in meeting the educational standards of this demanding programme and ended the semester with the highest mean grades. In preIB there are two such students: Radika Kalisiewicz and Anna Zielińska, both girls with the mean grade of 5.0; in IB1: Dong Jae Yoon with the mean grade of 5.8, Young Jae Song – 5.2, Beata Walkowiak – 5.16 and Victoire Froemer – 5.0; in IB2 the student with best results is  Valerie Sydry.

Most sincere congratulations to all of the high achievers! Hopefully, next semester will be equally successful to many more students.

LET’S LEARN SOME HISTORY FROM A FILM

On a January morning, in Lower Silesian Film Centre, in silence and concentration, the preIB and IB students, along with Ms Renata Otolińska, watched the most recent film by Agnieszka Holland, nominated for an Oscar 2012 – In Darkness.

This unusual history lesson moved the students with its tragic events, unknown facts, forgotten heroes, and provoked many questions and a stormy discussion on good and evil as well as the difficult choices every man may face.

STUDENTS AS ELVES

PreIB and IB students who constitute our theatre group – Zofia Marcinkowska, Paulina Stanislawski, Valerie Sydry, Mieszko Mastalerczyk – under the supervision and direction of Mr Bartłomiej Kamiński have prepared the performance titled Elves and the Gifts Factory and on 14th December staged it for children at Brochów hospital in Wrocław. The young patients had a great fun and we, teachers, were proud of our students who so eagerly dedicated their time to do a quality volunteering job like this!

ENTERTAINMENTS OF THE FESTIVE SEASON

On the 14th December, very much in the holiday mood already, the preIB students went to the cinema with their English teacher, Mr Paul Preusser, to watch the Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy New Year’s Eve, starring Halle Berry, Jessica Biel and Robert De Niro.

THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE

We had another visit of the Bocconi University student, Alessandro Silletti, who came here just before Christmas from Milan to promote this IB-friendly Italian university which gives students a lot of opportunities to study at variety of departments which Alessandro talked about as well as about the application procedure. It was a good chance for our students to ask any questions, shall they be interested in studying there.
