International School of EKOLA

About the School

EKOLA is a school where we offer genuine international education, which implies coexistence of cultural diversities, multinational community of teachers and students (American, Canadian, German, Korean, Polish, French, Portuguese, Austrian, Ukrainian, Finnish, etc) and authorization from International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the teaching programme which leads to worldwide-recognized IB Diploma examinations.

In EKOLA, open-mindedness and cross-cultural understanding are not just empty words but real-life issues, turned into action on everyday basis.

We like it here. You will like it too.

A little bit of history…

EKOLA is a foundation-owned, co-educational school, established in 1990 on the initiative of academic and high school teachers as well as parents convinced that there was at that time an urgent need to create a new, different, independent school. Since then EKOLA has continually offered primary, middle and high education in Wrocław.

In course of its twenty-one-year history EKOLA was awarded with Westallen Peace Prize for promoting peace, tolerance and intercultural understanding, became an associated UNESCO school, which takes part in intercultural, cross-curricular projects like Mondialogo, It’s your world too or Creating and Communicating on HIV and AIDS, participated in international ecological programmes Science Across Europe and Global Laboratory, organized ecology-oriented trips, workshops, and seminars. EKOLA joined also Socrates-Comenius international projects Forests Protect People – People Protect Forests and Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in Europe as well as other projects involving cooperation with schools and institutions from abroad; in the school year 2007/2008 we began preparations to Polish-Lithuanian project titled Youth Actions Against Racism and Xenophobia, which was launched in September 2008. Our partners are schools from Germany (more than 15-year partnership with the German school on Hildesheim), Italy, Slovakia, Turkey, Romania, France, and Lithuania.

The fast development of our city and province, which resulted in the remarkable growth of multinational population in Wrocław, encouraged us to think about introducing international curricula at school, with English as the language of instruction. We wanted to give students from foreign countries a chance to get internationally recognized certificates while staying with their families in Wrocław and at the same time offer a splendid opportunity for Polish students to master the English language, integrate with the variety of nationalities living in their city and graduate from high school with a diploma which enables them to study abroad if they wish. In March 2006, after a year and a half of application procedure, EKOLA was authorized as International Baccalaureate World School (school code 2989) offering IB Diploma Programme in high school.

Facilities

The school has its own fine building located in the city centre in a green and quiet neighbourhood. We have well-equipped classrooms and labs (language, computer, science), library and reading room as well as an amphitheatre hall. Physical education classes take place in the nearby sports hall (5 minutes walking distance) and at the swimming pool to which transport is arranged by the school. Refreshments are offered by a little school cafeteria. In the halls there are places to sit down and relax between lessons. There are safety lockers in the cloakroom where students can store their school things. Students of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme have got their own special place called IB room, equipped and furnished in a way which allows them to study, do computer work and Internet research but also rest in comfort.

All in all, our safe and cosy school environment creates perfect atmosphere for both hard work and good fun.
